Creating a Custom Bathroom

Creating a Custom Bathroom

Creating a custom designed bathroom will result in a room that is classy and uniquely your own; displaying classy style and your unique tastes and preferences. But a custom bathroom does not have to be designed by you it can use a style you subscribe to. This can be traditional, eclectic, modern, or cottage designs. Whichever style suits your personality and preferences.

Traditional Design

A tradition style bathroom would usually be found in a home with a traditional design. This does not mean you can’t have a traditional design in another style house.

Traditional designs use elements such as classic patterns, natural stone, tile or wallpaper, and a dark finished wood so eloquently associated with traditional vintage styles. This type of bathroom would work well with an antique dresser turned into a vanity. This style also works well with bold colored accent pieces.

The key to traditional design is convenience and functionality.

Eclectic Design

A combination of a variety of styles and periods put together through the use of texture, color, finish, and shape defines eclectic design. Think of a patchwork quilt which is a mixture of favorite colors, patterns, shapes, and designs.

This style bathroom would incorporate the personal preferences from a lot of different style into one room, to bring this design together choose a palette of color to repeat throughout room.

This style is not for the faint of heart. You must be bold to design an eclectic style room.

Modern Design

A minimalistic style, a modern designed bathroom would be sleek and airy. Devoid of clutter, this style of bath would use a lot of glass and mirrors to create the appearance of more space. With a modern design the bath would embrace natural colors with bold colored accent pieces, stainless steel fixtures, solid countertops, and popular types of wood.

An attractive style, this design creates a streamlined and functional room.

Cottage Design

A warm and casual style, the cottage design is characterized by weathered finishes, bead board walls, elements with texture such as baskets. It uses country influences of soft shapes and warm botanical colors such as a dusty pink, shades of green and light apricot accented with brighter colors such as bright sunflower yellow and shades of fuchsia along with natural fiber rugs to give the room a cozy vintage feel. Using an antique dresser for a vanity would work in this style as would antique cabinetry, hardwood floors, and vintage accessories.

This comfortable style would look great in a late nineteenth/early twentieth century home or in an old farmhouse in the country.

Choosing a design style for your bathroom may not be an easy decision. It take time to determine which elements fit in with the lifestyle of you and your family, and in most cases you will want to choose a style that you can live with for long periods of time as custom makeovers can be an expensive undertaking. Another factor to consider when choosing a custom design, do you plan to sell your home in the near future. A traditional or modern style will be more appealing to people than an eclectic style.
