Kitchen Renovation in Cabbagetown

Get A Quick Quote

Cabbagetown’s Victorian rowhouses were built long before open-concept kitchens existed, which usually means a narrow galley layout tucked at the back of the house, often with a low ceiling or an awkward connection to the original dining room. iRemodel Home Renovation Toronto has spent over 20 years renovating kitchens in Toronto’s older homes, and Cabbagetown properties are where that heritage experience matters most.

What’s Involved in a Cabbagetown Kitchen Renovation

Most kitchen projects here fall into two categories:

Layout renovations — opening the kitchen to an adjoining dining or family room, often requiring a structural wall assessment and, in some cases, heritage review if the change affects a character-defining interior space
Refresh renovations — new cabinetry, countertops, and finishes within the existing footprint, which typically avoid heritage permit requirements entirely

Kitchen renovations generally take 4 to 8 weeks, and most projects in the GTA run from $20,000 for a refresh to $60,000 or more for a full custom kitchen involving structural changes.

Local Considerations for Cabbagetown Properties

Many Cabbagetown homes fall within a City of Toronto Heritage Conservation District. Interior kitchen renovations are usually unaffected by heritage designation, but any work touching exterior walls, windows, or the building envelope requires heritage review in addition to a standard building permit. We confirm what applies to your property before design work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a kitchen renovation in Cabbagetown require heritage permit approval?

Usually not for interior-only work. Heritage review typically applies when a project affects exterior walls, windows, or the building envelope, which we assess with you upfront.

Can original plaster walls and trim be preserved during a kitchen renovation?

In most cases, yes. Our team works carefully around original plaster and mouldings, and can match trim profiles where new work meets old.

How much does a Cabbagetown kitchen renovation typically cost?

Most projects range from $20,000 for a refresh to $60,000 or more for a full custom kitchen with structural changes.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found iRemodel through Google, and I’m so glad I chose them. He worked on my late mother’s house, which is very sentimental to my sisters and me, so it was important to find someone we could trust. He worked on the powder room and he was professional, went above and beyond, and stayed in consistent communication throughout the entire process. He was also very punctual. if he said he would arrive at 8 a.m., he was there right on time and always left at a reasonable hour. I truly appreciate the care and respect he showed while working on such a meaningful space. I would highly recommend iRemodel to anyone looking for reliable and thoughtful service. I would definitely look forward to working with him again in the future.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I couldn’t be happier with my condo renovation — the transformation is absolutely stunning! From start to finish, the team brought incredible vision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. They completely reimagined the layout by knocking down a wall to create a spacious, open studio that feels bright, modern, and so much larger than before. The seamless porcelain tile installed throughout the entire unit not only looks beautiful but also makes the space feel cohesive and high-end. One of my favorite upgrades is the newly created space for our washer and dryer — such a smart and functional addition, that added real convenience. They also sealed the kitchen bar to create a more defined separation between the kitchen and living area, which improved both flow and functionality. The fresh white paint brightened everything instantly, and the addition of track lighting in the living room gave the space a clean, contemporary feel while adding warmth and ambiance. Overall the quality of the work was exceptional and communication was smooth throughout the entire project. If you’re looking for a team that delivers beautiful results and truly elevates your space, I highly recommend Dave and his team at iRemodel!

From the moment you walk in, it’s immediately clear how much care, thought, and craftsmanship went into redoing both the kitchen and the bathroom. The transformation is truly impressive and has elevated the entire space to feel modern, fresh, and incredibly inviting. The kitchen is a standout. Everything feels thoughtfully designed and well executed—from the updated cabinetry and sleek finishes to the overall layout, which now feels both functional and modern. The materials used are clearly high quality, and the attention to detail really shows. It’s the kind of kitchen that not only looks great but also feels practical for everyday use, whether you’re cooking a full meal or just enjoying the space. The updates make it feel contemporary without being overdone, striking a perfect balance between comfort and sophistication. The bathroom renovation is equally impressive. It feels clean, modern, and cozy, with updated fixtures and finishes that give the space a polished, refreshed feel. Everything is brand new, well-installed, and cohesive. The design choices make the bathroom feel more spacious and thoughtfully laid out, and it’s clear that functionality and aesthetics were both top priorities. It’s a space that feels relaxing and well cared for—exactly what you want in a newly renovated bathroom. Overall, this renovation was exceptionally well done. The upgrades to both the kitchen and bathroom significantly enhance the value and livability of the unit, and the quality of the work is evident throughout. It feels like a complete refresh rather than just surface-level updates. Anyone looking to remodel their space will immediately appreciate the effort, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that went into the renovation. Highly recommend—this is a beautifully updated unit that was clearly renovated with care and pride. A job very well done!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We just got our bathroom remodeled after a good friend highly recommended iRemodel. I was hesitant at first but Dave and his crew delivered on time, on budget and the bathroom now looks amazing. There was minimal dust and the team really paid attention to details. A couple times there seemed to be issues but the team was so good in making sure to find solution and solved the problem. We were most surprised that the project actually finished on time as promised. I would highly recommend. Thanks Dave and team for turning our dark and unwelcoming space into a bright bathroom that the girls now love to use.
